So Many Wizards

I met up with Nima Kazerouni at his apartment in Long Beach on a rather warm Saturday Morning. We had been talking about doing a session for a long time, the timing just never seemed to work out. And typically, I wouldn’t do this on a Saturday morning, but for a friend. He’d been playing shows kind of non-stop, writing and testing out new material in preparation for a recording session the next week at Different Fur Studios in San Francisco with Chris Chu (The Morning Benders), and was anxious to get some versions of the new songs down. The latest lineup of So Many Wizards included (on this particular day) Eric Felix on drums and Joaquin Pastor on guitar, keys, and various other noise-making devices, such as Fisher Price toys.
This recent batch of songs seem decidedly stripped down, a far cry from some of the intricately layered arrangements on the Tree EP (that included everything from trumpets, to accordion, organs, vocal harmonies, hand claps, samples, whistling). But the heart of the music has always been in the songwriting, melodies, and the emotion and feeling captured in the delivery. None of that is lost.

And be sure to check out their new EP when it comes out (soon), I have first hand knowledge that it is going to be amazing.
