Jenny O./ March 8, 2011

I met up with Jenny at a friend of her’s house in Echo Park on a Tuesday afternoon. It was one of those nondescript stucco exteriors that opened up into a gorgeous space, beautifully put together with amazing pieces of art and furniture in every corner (the kind that makes you think of a rich personal history of traveling and collecting, not the curating a modern art gallery kind), and with a courtyard that must beg to be occupied the ten and a half months of sunny weather a year (although this particular day it was getting a bit breezy and cold). It was the kind of place (belonging to an art director, I should note) that we could have shot any angle, anywhere inside or out and it would have looked cool. Even the laundry hanging from the clothesline seemed cool enough to just leave there.
Jenny had just finished her month-long residency of Monday nights at the Bootleg, and was preparing to head to Austin for another slew of shows at SXSW, so needless to say she was in tip-top performing shape, and even with the cold weather, cheerily ran through a couple tunes in her casually charming demeanor. And though she usually travels with a full band, she might be at her best just by herself with a guitar, leaving space to appreciate the careful guitar picking, keen sense of melody, witty lyrics and that magnetic voice.
